The Screenwriter’s Room

A first-draft adaptation room for finished novels

INT. THE RECORD — CONTINUOUS

Source to screen

What manuscript material became what screenplay material, and why — written down, so you never have to take it on trust.

TSR adapts your novel the way a screenwriter would, and shows you every choice before a page is written.

Before we write, you’ll see the adaptation plan: the structure, what’s cut, what’s combined, and any scene the film needs that your book doesn’t have. You approve it, or change anything in your own words.

What you must keep, and the meaning of your ending, never change without your yes.

Every scene, to its pages

Each scene in the screenplay carries anchors to the chapter and paragraphs it came from, in your manuscript as you sent it. Where a scene draws on two places in your book, both are named.

Every chapter, accounted for

Every chapter of your book is used, merged or cut. Nothing goes missing without being named, and a cut chapter says plainly what the film loses.

Every line, by kind

  • Your words exactly. Your own dialogue, taken from the book.
  • Your words, timed for speech. “He said” removed, or two of your sentences joined — logged.
  • What your pages clearly imply. Nothing new in meaning.
  • Your scene, rendered for the senses. Light, sound, the room — grounded in your pages and disclosed.
  • New story. Only inside the Adaptation Plan you approved, and flagged in the record.

Checked before you see it

Code checks that every scene is traced; that no character, place or event your book does not have appears unsigned; that your dialogue is exact where we used it; and that the screenplay carries no contradiction your book does not have. Where your book itself has a small inconsistency, we keep your version and list it — we never silently correct your book.

These checks are designed and not yet built. Their status is on How TSR Is Being Proven.
