The Screenwriter’s Room

A first-draft adaptation room for finished novels

INT. THE SCREENING ROOM — BEFORE OPENING

How TSR is being proven

Honestly, and before anyone pays: TSR is in build. The foundation is built and runs on our own server, and it has been tested on real chapters of a novel. The checks held those pages back, and no gate has closed yet. Whole-novel validation and a screenwriter benchmark come before any sale; no seat opens before those gates. This page will change only when a gate closes on a check whose answer the builders did not write.

The gate that decides: the blind human benchmark

A hired working screenwriter and TSR adapt the same pages, under the same brief. Two other screenwriters or development readers read both drafts without knowing which is which, and score each on eight measures: concept, structure, character, dialogue, visual writing, tone, fidelity to the novel, and readiness as a professional first draft.

Each reader then answers two questions. Would you continue developing this screenplay from this draft? And if you were hired to write the next draft, would you work from this screenplay or restart the adaptation from the novel?

TSR passes only if both readers would continue developing its draft, both would work from it rather than restart from the novel, its average is within one point of the human draft on a ten-point scale, and no fidelity fault turns up that the code missed. If it fails, the readers’ notes become the repair list.

The bar. TSR must turn a finished novel into a professionally structured first-draft feature screenplay that a professional screenwriter can develop forward from, without restarting the adaptation from the novel. The screenwriter is expected to improve the draft; improvement is not failure. Needing to start over from the novel is failure.

No seat opens before G9. Every other gate is necessary; none is enough on its own.
